With the chill of winter in the air, thoughts turn to falling leaves, warm cozy sweaters and giant steins of beer. It’s Oktoberfest time! For Southern California residents, the perfect local Oktoberfest setting is the pine-covered mountains surrounding the Lake Arrowhead Village.
Oktoberfest began in the early 1800’s when Crown Prince Ludwig wanted to celebrate his nuptials with some festivities. Beer and horse racing entertainment were provided for the masses, and Oktoberfest was born. Here are some more details about the festive event:
- A16 to 18-day long beer festival held annually in Munich.
- German food is a cornerstone of the festival, and of course the main attraction is beer that brewed in an established Munich-located brewery.
- More than 7,100,000 liters of beer are served every year.
- Nearly 70,000 pork knuckles dishes are ordered!
Lake Arrowhead’s Oktoberfest is a decades’ long tradition. This year’s festival began in late September and will continue every weekend through October 29th.
- Games for young and old are available. For example—beer-filled Stein holding contests for the grownups and apple bobbing for youngsters.
- Free shows run from noon until 4 p.m. every day of the festival.
